Main Cast: Our main cast consists of the roles of Clara, Drosselmeyer, The Buttcracker, Sugar Bum Fairy, the Boss/Rat King, Ensemble members, and outside understudies. Main cast rehearses for two months prior to the show opening and perform every night of the show. All costumes are provided for the main cast, and they are under the direction and choreography of our creative team. Auditions for the main cast are held yearly in late summer, and submission information is posted on the League of Chicago Theatre’s website, the Burlesque and Performance Community of Chicago Facebook page, various other Facebook pages, and Theatre In Chicago. You may also submit your headshot and resume at any time to thebuttcrackerauditions@gmail.com. Please submit your headshot and resume separately, and be sure to name them LAST NAME_FIRST NAME_RESUME, or LAST NAME_FIRST NAME_HEADSHOT, and subject your email BUTTCRACKER MAIN CAST SUBMISSION. Please note we are a small and mighty team, but we may not respond during show season (approximately August through December).

Featured Soloists: Featured Soloists make up the remaining cast of the show, and include the roles of Vodka, Hot Chocolate, Tea, Coffee, and Ginger. These performers bring a variety of different skills to the show in addition to classic burlesque, such as sword swallowing, grinder, juggling, contortion, acrobatics, drag, bed of nails, human pincushion, magic, clown, chair balancing, fan dancing, hula hoop, Thai dance, belly dance, Brazilian dance, and more. Featured Soloists are given the music from the show and are responsible for creating, choreographing, designing, and costuming their own act. They perform based on their availability during the run of the show, and are booked by our Featured Soloist Curator. The booking process for soloists begins in May and is finalized by October. If you are interested in being considered for a soloist spot, please email your headshot, resume, and 2 videos of completed acts in two styles to info@thebuttcrackerburlesque.com with the subject line FEATURED SOLOIST SUBMISSION. Please also indicate which role you are most interested in.

Designers: We employ creatives on a contract/stipend basis for directing, choreographing, lighting, sound, costumes, scenic, and props. We also hire a technical director, master electrician, sound engineers, and over-hire staff during build and light hang. Designers are often the first to be hired, usually in March to May. We post on the League of Chicago Theatre’s Jobs page when we are hiring for new designers. Please note that during show season (August through December) you may not hear back from us. Feel free to reach out again in late January if you have not received confirmation of your materials sent.

Staff: As a growing company, we are continually adding new roles to assist us in producing the show. We bring together assistant producers, managers, producing assistants, merchandise people, social media managers, and marketing associates all on a contract/stipend basis, but at the moment we do not employ on a full-time or part-time basis. We usually post on the League of Chicago Theatre’s Jobs page when we have a new contract position available. Available positions will be listed and linked below.
